Volcanism Of The Heart

I.
Tonight the moon coasts by
like an iron firefly,
disappearing for heavy moments
then suddenly arising on fluttering wings
as our eyes again tumble skyward.

Tonight we anchor the moon to the earth
as we drown in the molten core
of each other’s eyes.

Here,
bathed in ancient starlight,
we surrender.

II.
Tonight we erupt
in the soft darkness of awareness
that glows momentarily
in this sustained stillness
like a bowstring drawn taut,
with the arrow of time resting
upon the quiver.

Tonight we anchor the moon to the earth
as we drown in the molten core
of each other’s eyes.

Here,
bathed in ancient starlight,
we surrender.
